If you're interested in my weird art, there are a couple of other places I post more frequently in. Most content is about VOIDWALKER, a comic/novel WIP about an organ thief, a godslayer, a government-sanctioned killing machine, the charismatic (annoying) pilot of a living airship, and the small "normal" child they have to babysit when they aren't trying to kill each other. There is also an ocean with a slowly rising waterline haunted by the corpses of several dead gods. Just don't drink the seawater, it's probably fine. | -More about VOIDWALKER- |

I still use DA a lot for browsing and collecting art faves and posting polished pieces, which...doesn't happen as often as it should. Oops. I might start unloading sketches here eventually too. Anyway, if there's people out there still interested, hi!! and thanks for sticking around. I want to try to get into more worldbuilding and character communities and if that's something DA has, I might pop up here more often. c:

I am attempting to start with a semi-clean slate by putting a lot of old work into storage. So, if there is anything I've done for you in the past that you'd like to hold on to, let me know and I can send you the file.

It's strange that now that I finally have the energy to do things I cant find the motivation. Or...the inspiration, maybe? The passion for writing or drawing all the things I built up for so long is so much thinner than what it used to be, and I don't know why. I just know from recent experience that being terrified of it results in a lot of self-circulating garbage thoughts and zero progress. The last thing anyone wants is to be numb and stuck in a rut again; it sucks. So...fake it till you make it, right?

That's the goal of this list. This is for keeping track of stuff I need to improve on (in the art department. Writing is a whole different camel), because I have a ton of sketches for study/practice but not a lot of finished work that shows a coherent progression line. This is kind of a personal reminder to have around to keep me trying to move forward and hold me accountable, but I thought that maybe somebody else might find it helpful too. When the inspiration runs dry divert your energy into pure practice instead. And hope that the inspiration comes back. Eeeh.

Self Improvement
Reminder: Don't be afraid to fail. Drawing bad is better than not drawing at all. Scribble, doodle, write crap, but finish it. Learn from your mistakes, and keep going.

:bulletpurple: Storytelling
What are you trying to say with your piece? What elements in the scene can you use to drive your point home? Lighting, atmosphere, composition, character expression and action, etc. How do your transitions impact your message?

:bulletpurple: Perspective
The 3D nature of objects; view things as shapes with planes instead of a series of lines on paper. Learn to properly apply vanishing points and grids.

:bulletpurple: Anatomy & Characters
Accuracy, proportions, interacting poses, dynamic poses, body language. Use all of these to communicate through characters and their actions.

:bulletpurple: Faces
        Mouths, ears, eyes, expressions.

:bulletpurple: Enviroments
Landscapes, scenes, indoor scenes, storytelling through objects (making 'characters' of the environment), buildings.

:bulletpurple: Light+
Light and shadow mechanics, blending, color theory, value.

Activities
-Movies. Pause every minutes and practice drawing transitions and angles.
-Do value studies.
-Draw from life. Simplify forms down to 3D objects with planes to understand them better, then fill in details.
-Read comics/webcomics. You need fuel!
-Read some books! Find some inspiring material and read yourself out of the void.

Tasks
-Gather up a bunch of the daily practice sketches from the past 4 months and paste them into one, giant file. Compare old with new, and use the sketch merge to figure out what needs to be improved.
